FAQ About Requesting the Scan-Van
The call-out fee covers the Scan-Van's travel to and from your location. It's calculated based on distance and drive time from our Melbourne metro base, with a $40 minimum. Our live calculator on the pricing page gives you a close estimate for your suburb before you get in touch. It measures from the centre of the suburb, so your exact figure depends where you are within it, and we confirm that when you request a visit. The fee is separate from the per-scan cost and applies once per visit, regardless of how many people are scanned.
No. The Scan-Van can visit a single individual at their home, workplace, or any preferred location, as long as the call-out fee is covered. Individual pricing applies for groups of 4 or fewer ($65 initial scan, $55 subsequent). Groups of 5 or more unlock tiered group pricing where the per-scan cost drops as the group grows and as scan commitment increases.
Two to three weeks' notice is ideal, especially for weekends or regional locations where the Scan-Van may already be booked. Shorter notice is often possible for Melbourne metro weekday visits. Use the preferred date and alternative dates fields in the form so we can confirm a slot that works for both of us.

Those regions are where the Scan-Van runs regular clinics, but they are not a boundary. Requesting a visit is exactly how we reach everywhere else. The further out you are, the more the call-out fee reflects the distance, so a single scan a long way from Melbourne is rarely worth it. A gym, a clinic, a workplace or a decent-sized group is a different matter entirely, because that fee is charged once per visit no matter how many people are scanned. How the call-out fee works
A call-out fee covers travel to the location and back. It starts at $40 and is charged once per visit regardless of how many people are scanned, so the cost per person falls as the group grows. The fee is calculated on driving distance and estimated travel time for the requested date and time, and it drops considerably on days the Scan-Van is already heading in that direction. Scanning itself is charged at the standard individual or group rates on top of the call-out fee.

A date, time and exact fee are then locked in, with booking details and preparation instructions supplied. Finally the Scan-Van arrives at the agreed time with the full setup ready.
What arrives
The Scan-Van is a purpose-built mobile clinic, not a portable scanner carried inside and set up on a table. It carries the InBody 970 body composition analyser and the ECAL indirect calorimeter installed, along with screens for walking through results, and functions as a private, quiet, climate-controlled consulting space. Nothing is required at the destination beyond somewhere to park.
Who requests it
Households and families wanting scans at home. Personal trainers and small studios without a scheduled clinic nearby. Workplaces and corporate teams. Medical and allied health practices running patient sessions. Sporting clubs, community groups and private groups of friends. Anyone in a region the scheduled rotation does not reach often enough. Because the call-out fee is per visit rather than per person, group requests are usually the most economical way to use this service.
What every appointment includes
Every scan includes a one-on-one or small group consultation with Steve Burden, who conducts every scan and interprets every result personally. Results are explained in plain language, connected to training, nutrition and lifestyle, and turned into specific next steps, with the full multi-page report provided. Where ECAL is included, that adds a resting metabolic rate report covering measured caloric expenditure and substrate utilisation. An initial InBody appointment runs about 20 minutes, a progress scan about 10, and an ECAL appointment about 40.
